OK, so I’m not a knuckle cracker but I know others who are. I suppose it’s one of those nervous habits, like biting your nails (which is more my style).

So is the old wives tale true? Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis? I suppose it would aggravate arthritic joints, but does it create it? I’m going to say no that it doesn’t, but share your thoughts in the comments.

It doesn’t matter if you call them Chicken Fingers or Chicken Planks, this is the kind of Southern goodness that I crave. I really enjoy making Buttermilk Chicken Fingers and you can’t have too many chicken tender recipes… so here’s a another good recipe to add to your file.

There’s just something about cooking with buttermilk that I love. It adds such a creamy, tangy goodness and can be used in both savory and sweet dishes.

So happy to share this favorite recipe with you and hope you can fall in love with buttermilk too!

Ingredients for Mustard Sauce (Serves 2)

  • 1 T. mayo
  • 1 T. yellow mustard
  • 1 T. sweet and spicy whole grain mustard
  • 1 1/2 T. honey

Combine all ingredients and keep in fridge until ready to use.


Ingredients for Buttermilk Chicken Fingers:

  • 1 1/2 lbs. chicken tenders
  • 1/2 C. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. hot sauce
  • 1 1/2 C. flour
  • 1 T. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. black pepper

Directions for Buttermilk Chicken Fingers:

  1. Place the chicken in a Ziploc bag and add the buttermilk and hot sauce.
  2. Squish around and place in the fridge for 1 hour.
  3. Combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper in another Ziploc bag.
  4. Heat a deep fryer to 375 degrees.
  5. Take 3-4 pieces of chicken and toss into the flour bag and toss to coat well.
  6. Gently lower into the hot oil and fry for 6-7 minutes.
  7. Remove to a paper sack or paper towel lined plate when done.
  8. Repeat with remaining chicken.
  9. Serve with the honey mustard sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Jello Cookies…Lemon, Lime, Orange and Raspberry. Rolled in sugar and then sprinkled with more chunky, colored sugar before baking. These are the sugariest of sugar cookies. Tangy, sweet, soft and yummy. Beautiful, colorful and delightfully different from my usual favorites.

I got the recipe from my Nana at least 30 years ago a while back (wink). I thought why not give my kids a treat that I remember from when I was young (hey, how did we get on this “age” kick anyway?). So, I started making theses sweets and it brought back such wonderful memories. Sometimes it’s good to revisit those old favorites.


Ingredients for Jello Cookies:

  • 3/4 c butter
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 3 oz (85 g) pack of any flavor jello
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions for Jello Cookies:

  1. Cream butter, sugar, jello and eggs together.
  2. Mix in rest of ingredients well and roll into balls.
  3. Place on greased cookie sheet and flatten with fork.
  4. Bake for 6-8 min at 350

Suggestions: Do not share unless you’ve made enough for EVERYONE! lol

This recipe brings together the best things in life in one fabulous bread!

In case you can’t tell, I am a bit of a carb junkie. Bread, potatoes, pancakes,cake, cupcakes…you get the idea. These are my comfort foods. Not surprising that nobody ever craves a carrot for comfort, LOL.

The first time I ever made this was with chili and I would highly recommend this combo.

Ingredients for Bacon Cheddar Beer Bread:

  • 3 cups self rising flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 12oz bottle of beer
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, diced
  • 1 cup sharp shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Directions for Bacon Cheddar Beer Bread:

  1. Mix flour, sugar and beer together till well combined. Fold in bacon and cheese.
  2. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven.
  3. Bake for 45 minutes, pour melted butter over top of loaf and bake for another 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven, let cool until bread is easy to remove from loaf pan.
  5. Serve warm.
