Imagine sitting down to a freshly sliced piece of cake, still hot from the oven. One bite into that decadent deliciousness and the world seems to pause for that one small, perfect moment. My mouth’s watering just thinking about it!

But with all that sweetness comes an instant need to wash down that crumbly texture with a nice, tall glass of . . . SODA??? Wait a second, that’s not right! I don’t know about you, but for me, soda is just about the last thing I want to consume while indulging in the sugary treat.

So, you can imagine my hesitation when Todd’s Kitchen suggested combing the two! But if this culinary YouTube sensation swears by it, I’d say it’s worth a shot.

He insists that you can make a sinfully delicious cake with only two ingredients – boxed cake mix and soda! What makes this recipe even better (if the 2-ingredient-requirement wasn’t good enough already), you can cater the concoction to your own particular preference.

In the video he uses chocolate mix and raspberry-flavored soda, but this is purely a suggestion. My brain is already rattling off a bunch of pairings I can’t wait to try – vanilla mix with orange soda, lemon mix with Sprite, German chocolate mix with cream soda – the options are endless!

All children go through a bit of a rebellious phase. Whether that happens during the terrible twos or in the midst of the teen years, it’s something almost every parent faces.

When Chiquita Hill started to experience this rebellious phase with her 10-year-old son she knew she had to do something about it.

Her son, Sean, was acting up in school. He was being disrespectful to his teacher, mouthing off, refusing to do his schoolwork and talking back. After weeks of this bad behavior, Ms. Hill decided to teach him a lesson.

When no other disciplinary actions worked, she enlisted the help of the local police department. She had them come to her house and pretend to arrest her son.

Ms. Hill said she believed she had run out of options when it came to her son’s behavior, according to the Daily Mail. “I knew I had to do something to shock him,” she told ABC News, according to the Daily Mail.

Local Columbus police officers came to her home, handcuffed Sean and escorted him to their police car.

Officers put 10-year-old Sean in the backseat of their cop car and talked to him for a few minutes. Then, they left him in the car for five minutes to sit alone with his thoughts.

“Everything happened so fast,” Ms. Hill said, according to the Daily Mail. “He didn’t have time to react to anything … he was scared.”

After his good talking to by the officers and time alone in the cop car, he was finally ‘released.’ After this traumatizing ordeal, he ran to his mother with tears running down his face, gave her a giant hug and promised to never do it again.

Ms. Hill said she has no idea what they discussed in the car, but whatever they said made an impact. After all was said and done and the cops had left, she sat down with her son and explained why she did this. She explained how his actions and behaviors not only affect him, but everyone around him.

“I’m glad I did this,” she said to ABC, according to the Daily Mail. “He will be 11 this month. He’s hitting that pre-teen age. I understand that he will be going through changes, but with all the things going on in Missouri and in Baltimore, I want to stop anything from happening while he’s young and impressionable.”

This story has caught a lot of attention recently and many people think what she did was wrong. But Hill defended her actions and her parenting tactics, comparing her situation to that of the mother in Baltimore.

On April 17, 2013, a young man was pulled over by a Royal Oak Police officer while on his first date with a young woman.

CBS Detroit fills in more details, explaining that while the Royal Oak Police Department asked that no names be given, they did answer some questions about what happened next.

Recruited to be part of the young man’s big plan, the cops were happy, two years later, to play their part in making the traffic stop seem very real. This helped him catch his girlfriend by complete surprise with his bended-knee proposal.

One of my personal favorites from Cracker Barrel is their hash-brown casserole. It has a delicious creamy and cheesy taste that I haven’t been able to replicate…until now.

Thanks to the internet and the folks at Gooseberry Patch, we now have a great copycat recipe that’s just as good as the original. Best of all, you can make this in the comfort of your own home! Just add some chicken and dumplings with some green beans to your plate, and you’ve got yourself the perfect homestyle meal!

Give this recipe a try for yourself and see if you like it!

Ingredients for Cracker Barrel Hashbrown Casserole

  • 32-oz. pkg. frozen hashbrown potatoes, thawed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 10-3/4 oz. can cream of chicken soup
  • 16-oz. container sour cream
  • 1/2 c. butter, melted
  • 1/2 c. onion, chopped
  • 8-oz. pkg. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Directions for Cracker Barrel Hashbrown Casserole

Place potatoes in a greased 13″x9″ baking pan. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; set aside. In a bowl, stir together soup, sour cream, melted butter and onion. Spread soup mixture over potatoes; stir gently. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes, until bubbly and golden. Serves 6 to 8.

A 6-year-old boy was roughed up at school, not by other kids, but by his teacher. First his parents got a letter saying there had been an incident at school. Then they watched the video of what happened and they were completely floored.

The teacher, who had been teaching at that time for 10 years, can be seen in the video grabbing the 6-year-old’s face as he is walking down the hallway to use the bathroom. She then proceeds to grab him by the shirt, lift him up in the air, and push him up against the wall.

What really has set off criticism, though, was the school’s reaction. Williams was suspended for ten days without pay, but retained her job.

According to The Courier, the teacher, who later resigned after the incident occurred, pleaded no contest to a charge of attempted child endangerment, which is a second-degree misdemeanor. She was sentenced to attend anger management classes for shoving the student and fined $250.
