Is That Really Earth? Amazing Photos That Will Inspire Awe

0

We all love things that show us parts of the world we’ve never seen. And, we love seeing them in a way we might never get to. That’s why Russian non-profit AirPano sets out on massive photo expeditions to take aerial and panoramic photos of some of the planet’s most amazing wonders. You can see all their photos on AirPano.com, but here is a collection of a few of our very favorites.

The Great Wall of China

great wall

The famed 13,170.7 mile wall took over almost 500 years to build and is considered one of the Ancient Wonders of the world. Even if you saw it in person, you’d only see the stone or wood composition of the section you were looking at. To see it like this really gets across the magnitude of such a creation. The wall that stands today isn’t near as long, since over 1/3 of it has vanished.

Easter Island, Chile

easter island

The figures seen in this picture, the Moai, were built by the Rapa Nui. The Rapa Nui are the original Easter Island inhabitants, the first of the Polynesian settlers to come to the Chilean island. the Moai were carved between 1250 and 1500 AD. While it looks like the monolithic statues only have heads, many of them have torsos buried under the earth.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

toronto

Toronto is the largest city in Canada, is the capital of Ontario, and is rated the world’s fourth most livable city. It’s also quite stunning from a bird’s eye view.

Lake Bogaria,Kenya

lake bogaria 2

lake bogoria

Once a freshwater lake, Bogaria is now a saline lake that is home to at least 18 natural geysers – the most of any lake in Africa. It’s also, at times, a flamingo favorite.

Great Barrier Reef, Australia

great barrier reef

The thing that is so cool about the Great Barrier Reef is that it was created by living creatures. It’s also huge. It can be seen from space. It’s located in the Coral Sea, just outside Queensland, Australia.

Iguazu Falls, Argentina/Brazil Border

igasu falls

These falls, which flow through Argentina’s border with Brazil, are certainly breathtaking. The J-shaped jump that separates the countries is called the “Devil’s Throat.”

Dubai City, United Arab Emirates

dubai marina

Dubai City, full of skyscrapers, fantastical architecture and loads of theme parks, resorts, shopping and restaurants looks like it’s a city from the future. Especially from above.

Santorini, Greece

santorini2

santorini

In 16th century, BC, a huge volcano erupted on Santorini, forming the rocky terrain that inspired the hillside houses that are there today. Set in the Aegean Sea, Santorini has old world charm.

Lake Powell, Utah, United States

Lake Powell, UT

Over 2 million tourists per year take the trek to the Arizona/Utah border to hang out at the large reservoir known as Lake Powell. It’s great for swimming, fishing, or just taking in the natural, breathtaking beauty of the place.

Westerdok, Amsterdam, Netherlands

westerdok amsterdam

It’s one thing to see Amsterdam in person, but to see a view from above like this is amazing.

St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow, Russia

st basils

Commanded by Ivan the Terrible, they broke ground on St. Basil’s in 1555 and it was consecrated in 1561. It is no longer Russia’s largest cathedral, but it is still one of the most beautiful.

The North Pole

North Pole

Did you know the North Pole isn’t actual land? It’s a spot in the middle of the Arctic Ocean that’s totally frozen. Makes Santa that more magical, eh?

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

rio de jan

This breathtaking photo shows Christ the Redeemer, the art deco statue conceived by Paul Landowski and created by Heitor da Silva Costa, looking out over a fog-misted Rio De Janeiro.

The Arc de Triomphe, Paris, France

arc de triomphe

Quite a different view of one of the most famous landmarks in all of France.

Churun-meru Falls, Venezuela

Churun meru

Also called Dragon Falls, this place is amazing.

Central Park, New York City, New York, United States

Central Park

It’s delightful to sit in Central Park and enjoy all the life around you. What would it be like to sit this far above it?

These Honest Confessions By Dads Will Have You Rolling

0

We interviewed several area dads on everything from politics to gardening. Their honest answers will make you laugh, but you’ll also see how great these guys are!

Dave Andrews, Hiking Enthusiast, Father of 2

Stuff Happens Dads

“I’m proud to be raising my kids as vegans. My wife always said we would, and we are. I can always offer to run to the grocery store and scarf down a double bacon burger. Win, win.”

Sean McNichol, Advertising Executive, Father of 4

“I believe in equal pay for equal work, sure. But I am really glad all my kids are boys. That way, when I’m old, I’ll know they can support me.”

Jesse Sharp, DJ, Father-to-Be

“I’m stoked that I’m going to be a dad! I am absolutely certain that it will not change my lifestyle even the tiniest bit. Nope. Not at all.”

Jason Landry, Organic Farmer, father of 2

“Sometimes I lay down in the cornfield and put a little fake blood around my mouth and wait for one of the kids to find me. It’s good practice for them, and it lets me know that they really love me.”

Kendrick Jones, Neurosurgeon, father of 3

“I saved seven lives today. When I get home, my wife is going to complain about cooking dinner with the assistance of our 3 helpful, well-behaved kids. Maybe if I keep my sunglasses on, I can stay out of trouble for rolling my eyes.”

Kyle Simmons, Stay-At-Home-Dad, 1 Kid

“I don’t really know what the big deal is. If she’s old enough to watch The Hunger Games I don’t see a problem showing her Battle Royale.”

Ronald Ledge, Teacher, 1 Kid

“I felt bad for my daughter since she’d never gotten a call or text from a boy. So I hired the kid who works at the supermarket to text her once a day. Then I had to send that kid to jail for texting my underage daughter. How was I supposed to know he was 18?”

Freddy Winchester, IT Professional, 2 Kids

“When it was time to have the sex talk with my son, I told my wife to do it and went on a 4-day fishing trip out of cell phone range. Soon, it will be time to talk to my daughter. I already booked a cabin in the middle of a no-cell zone. I’m not coming back until I’m sure it’s safe”

John Lee, Contractor, 1 Kid

“I teach my 3-year-old creative curses to surprise his mom with when she gets home from work.”

Will Lewis, EMT, 4 Kids

“I told my kids I was getting them a puppy, and then I told them that the puppies were infected with chlamydia. That backfired, because then I had to tell them about chlamydia. And koala bears. It was a mess.”

This Father Abandoned His Daughter. She Responds In A Way I Can’t Imagine.

daughter-teaches-forgiveness

This is a beautiful story, true or not. But it’s also important to remember that not all fathers leave their children, some fathers would love to see their children but the mothers will not let them, please don’t jump on the ‘hate dad’ bandwagon.

My daughter has not seen her biological dad since she was four. She’s 11 now.

When she was two he contacted me and asked if I would allow him to terminate his parental rights so he could stop paying child support and I agreed.. I wanted to spare her the heartache of a revolving door father and the sacrifice of the financial support was well worth him never being able to disappoint her again.

I never lied to her about where he went or who her dad was.. I have always answered her questions in the most age appropriate way possible.

When she was four he contacted me and told me he had been diagnosed with cancer and would like to see her. I set aside a day and we met in the park. He had asked for two hours. He stayed 20 minutes and we never heard from him again..

Over the summer we ran into somebody that knows him and they commented on how she looks like his other children. They elaborated that he has settled down and has a family now. My stomach tied itself in knots thinking of how hurtful that must be to my daughter..

I cut the conversation short and we got in the car to leave and that’s when I saw her smiling. She said “Mom.. He figured out how to be a dad. That’s such a nice thing. I’m happy for his kids.”

And that’s he day an 11 year old taught me all I need to know about forgiveness.

Husband Surprises Wife By Telling Her She’s Pregnant

0

husband-surprises-pregnant-wife

We love heartwarming pregnancy announcements, but this one is a heartwarming pregnancy announcement with a twist.

While it’s normally (and understandably) the woman in the relationship who breaks the big news to her often surprised and baffled man, Youtubers Sam And Nia, have totally rewritten the rulebook on these things: Sam breaks the news to Nia.

After he realised that she’d missed her period, Sam managed to get a sample of her pee from out of the toilet bowl (sometimes it pays to forget to flush, it would seem!) He then ran a pregnancy test and learned of the happy news himself.

Sam subtly hints at the news, telling Nia that she “can’t have wine”, before his wife works out what he’s saying and he reveals the pregnancy test.

It turns out that Nia was hoping to break the news to Sam when she took a test herself, but he managed to completely turn it on its head.

This Rude Woman Asks For Advice, Gets Epically Put In Her Place.

Ask Amy responses to Sad Sister

I saw this clipping from a newspaper on Reddit and it was causing quite a stir. It is taken from a popular column in the Denver Post called Ask Amy. The article starts with a frustrated woman telling Amy about her sister who just doesn’t “fit in” with her other family and friends so she is regularly left out of events. The Sad Sister writing the question was probably expecting Amy to take her side and give her some useful advice. Amy however had something quite different to say.

Dear Amy:
Every fall, my sister, cousins and a cousin’s sister-in-law have a weekend shopping excursion in our home city. We stay in a hotel, treat ourselves, shop for our children and go out for lunches and dinners. It is a great time to reconnect.

I have a sister “Wendy,” who we do not invite. She is offended to the point of tears when she finds we have not invited her. My two sisters and I are very close in age, but Wendy hasn’t been as close to this set of cousins as my sister and I have been through the years.

We are all married stay-at-home moms. Wendy is a divorced, working mom with one young child.

There are several reasons we do not include her. We know she doesn’t have very much money for such an outing. She also does not have many of the same interests as we do. Her life is quite different from ours. We’re not interested in what she has to talk about. She complains too much about her aches and pains, and claims to have some kind of neurological disease that some of us feel is more psychosomatic than real and which she uses to avoid getting up for church on Sundays.

She also complains about her ex-husband who left her for another woman, but everyone knows it takes “two to tango” and she is not without fault.

We’re all very active churchgoers, while she only sporadically attends services. Plain and simple, she does not really fit in with us anymore.

She takes it very personally, and last year even came over to my home unannounced crying about it, which upset my children and caused my husband to threaten to call the police if she did not leave.

Now she barely speaks to me and has told our relatives that I am a horrible person (even though I’ve helped her).

How can we get her to understand that she should perhaps find another set of friends whose lives and interests align more closely with hers? — Sad Sister

Dear Sad:
First, let’s establish that I agree with your sister: You are a horrible person.

Obviously, you can do whatever you want and associate with — or exclude — whomever you want, but you don’t get to do this and also blame the person you are excluding for not “fitting in.”

The only way your sister would ever fit in would be for you to make room for her. You are unwilling to do that, and that is your choice. But her being upset is completely justified, and you’ll just have to live with that.

Perhaps this is something you could ponder from your church pew, because despite your regular attendance, you don’t seem to have learned much.

This Dad Gets Tattoo To Match His Daughter And It’s Awesome.

Little Charlotte Campbell had to get a cochlear implant when she was 4. Now she’s 6 and she’s had to get another one.

Her dad, Alistair, decided he didn’t want her to feel alone.

He didn’t have any tattoos, but he wanted to do something permanent – so he got a tattoo of the hearing aid on his head.

These Kids Were Digging In The Yard When They Hit Something. Police Have Never Seen Anything Like This.

We all grow up digging around in sand boxes hoping to strike it rich and find some hidden ancient treasures. What we typically find is an old Matchbox car or a present left behind by a cat. Either way it’s very rare to find something desirable. Well, that’s not quite the case with a young group of boys in California.

We all grow up digging around in sand boxes hoping to strike it rich and find some hidden ancient treasures. What we typically find is an old Matchbox car or a present left behind by a cat. Either way it’s very rare to find something desirable. Well, that’s not quite the case with a young group of boys in California. They were digging in their yard when they found something that would make anyone’s jaw drop and their mouth start drooling. In 1978, these kids were digging in their yard when they came across something big, something metal, and something very very valuable. A buried Ferrari!

kids-discover-buried-ferrari-01

The boys actually discovered a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS buried just a few feet under the dirt in their yard. The family had just moved into the house and immediately called authorities who came and roped off the area. A team of investigators arrived and unearthed the rare car.

kids-discover-buried-ferrari-02

After exhuming the Italian sports car, it was obvious that someone had planned on returning to retrieve the vehicle. It was very crudely mummified with towels in the vents and tape on many of the seams however the windows weren’t fully closed causing a lot of interior damage.

Farmers Insurance was contacted and because of the VIN number they traced the last owner. After the investigation, it turns out that the owner of the car had actually hired thieves to steal the car and dump it in the ocean so he could claim insurance on it. The thieves buried the car with the intention of returning to pick it up.

The buried Ferrari was then auctioned off after being on display with the incredible story being reported across the nation. It was purchased by a young mechanic who owned his own shop in California. The going price was estimated to be between $5,000 and $9,000.

He fully restored the buried Ferrari and often enters the car into car shows. Here are the pictures of the car after the complete restoration.

Everything on the car has been restored to the exact factory condition. However, this car comes with some incredible history and an awesome story.

This Artist Creates Incredible Tribute To Cecil The Lion, And We’re Speechless.

By now, everyone has heard the tragic story of Cecil, the protected lion who was killed by a Minnesota dentist and his Zimbabwe guides. The internet is angry, Jimmy Kimmel is angry…we’re all angry.

So when Aaron Blaise, former Disney artist, heard about it, he decided to make something beautiful, rather than contributing to the negative social media posts.

Take a look at his art and “making of” video below:

aaron-blaise-cecil-the-lion-king

Blaise actually worked on The Lion King, and he was reminded of Simba seeing his father, Mufasa, looking down at him from the clouds. It’s beautiful. And, he recorded the process, so we could see an artist at work.

Do you think this tribute is as beautiful as we do?

Dad Came Home To Find Torn Up Sheets. But When You See This Guilty Dog’s Expression, Priceless!

There are whole websites devoted to dog shaming. Our canine companions do things we can’t believe – like eating socks, destroying furniture, and pooping in bizarre places. And we can’t get enough of it! Remember Denver the Guilty Dog? Meet Berlin, the I’m Not Admitting Anything Dog.

There is no clear data on whether or not dogs can feel guilt or shame. Some scientists think that they just know how to PRETEND with the guilty looks. In videos like this, it makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
